Along the quiet waters of the Aigronne, towering the old mill, the ancientcastle of Ray, or Retz, now called Ré, awaits you. The Abbé de Grosseboeuf, historiograph of Tours from 1894 to 1928, found that it was built around 1510 by Christophe de Couché. This old stronghold belonged to theChâtellerie of Sainte Julitte , last of who’s lord was Eusèbe Félix Chaspoux, comte (earldom) de Loches and grand échanson (cup-bearer) de France at the court of Louis XVI « with faith and homage lige, and a half rousse of service. ». So in 1411 it belonged to his vassal Geoffroy de Coué, knight ; In 1479, to Pothon de Coué ; in 1655 to Louis-Philippe de Périon ; in 1656, to Louis de Périon ; in 1687, to Benoît de Genaut, esquire ; by his wife, in 1789, to Gabriel d’Arsac, marquis de Ternay, deputy of the nobility in the « Etats- Généraux » who died emigré in 1796, in London.
